The Moveable Feast
This popular series is presenting its 14th season of exciting authors talking about their new books at Waccamaw Neck restaurants, followed by lunch and a book signing. Held every Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., paid reservations are requested by the Wednesday prior to the feast. Each feast is $25. The 2012 schedule is available at the CLASS office inside the Chocolate & Coffee House (Litchfield Exchange behind Applewood House of Pancakes on U.S. 17), online at www.ClassAtPawleys.com, or by phone, 843-235-9600.
Sept. 7 ~ Richard Coté (“In Search of Gentle Death”) at Kimbel’s, Wachesaw. This book, based on five years of intensive primary source research and more than 100 in-depth interviews, explores the pioneering, highly pragmatic and practical work carried out by the international death-with-dignity movement over the last forty years to eliminate the last bad death. It offers clear and valuable examples of how, through frank communication with caregivers and loved ones and the use of Advance Medical Directives such as living wills, those who are facing the possibility of death in the foreseeable future, and those who help them cope, can greatly minimize or eliminate end-of-life turmoil, family dissention, and pain.

Kathy Patrick's book which kicked off the biggest reading phenomenon in history with more than 500 book club chapters and thousands of devoted fans.
Sept. 14 ~ Kathy Patrick (“The Pulpwood Queen’s Tiara-Wearing, Book-Sharing Guide to Life”) at Pawleys Plantation. When licensed cosmetologist turned publisher’s rep Kathy Patrick lost her job due to industry cutbacks, she wasn’t deterred. One year later, she opened Beauty and the Book, the world’s only combination beauty salon/bookstore. Soon after, she founded The Pulpwood Queens of East Texas – a reading group that dared to ask the question, “Does a book club have to be snobby to be serious?” The idea spread like wildfire. Now there are about 70 chapters nationwide. The overriding rule – aside from wearing the club’s official tiara, hot pink, and leopard print outfits – is that the groups must have fun. The club’s mission: To get America reading. The book celebrates female friendship, sisterhood and the transformative power of reading.
Sept. 21 ~ Jon Buchan (“Code of the Forest”) at Ocean One. Kate Stewart, a young, successful trial lawyer (who has fled a large Columbia law firm), and Wade McNabb, an independent small-town newspaper editor (a refugee from the world of chain-owned newspapers), are united against a powerful, corrupt and colorful South Carolina Senator. Set in Georgetown in the mid-1990s, the novel focuses on Kate and Wade’s battle against the Senator’s efforts to force the editor to reveal his confidential source for the article or almost certainly lose his newspaper. The story offers romantic tension, humor, courtroom drama, racial conflict and mystery.
FOWL Request for Jewelry Donations
The Friends of Waccamaw Library (FOWL) is seeking donations of newly created or gently worn jewelry and accessories. Everyone has past treasures in her jewelry box that deserve to be enjoyed again. Give yours a second life in support of local children’s library services.

The Mars Landscape fused glass pendant, created and donated by Suz Mole for the Friends of the Waccamaw Library auction.
FOWL will hold its 22nd Annual Luncheon & Auction “Jewelry & More” on Tuesday, Oct. 9, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Litchfield Country Club. Typically a sell-out, this event features great table companions, a delicious meal, scores of fantastic door prizes, and amazing vignettes of donated jewelry and accessories in silent and Chinese auctions.
This year’s luncheon will feature accessory accents: Some new, some created by local artisans just for this event, and others lovingly pre-owned and generously donated by area residents. In addition to necklaces, bracelets, rings, earrings, pins and watches, you may find hats and vests, bags and totes, scarves and belts!
All of the proceeds will provide programming and support for the Waccamaw children’s librarian. If you wish to attend the event, tickets are $35 ($25 of which is tax deductible) and available from Sharon Patula at 314-3534.
If you have items to donate to the auction, they can be dropped off at the Waccamaw Library or Art Works in the Litchfield Exchange, or call Kathy Gramet at 237-9208. You will receive a tax receipt for your donation.
