The Pawleys Island Festival of Music and Art is now accepting entries until March 16 for its poster design competition to advertise their twenty-second annual event. The winning design will be used in promotional materials, including a poster and tee shirts that will be sold during the festival. The winning designer will take home $300.

According to Jerry Peel, 2011 Poster competition winner, “This poster competition gives artists free rein to showcase their creativity and talent to depict the spirit and special character of the 22nd Annual Pawleys Island Festival. I encourage artists of all ages and styles to take on this worthwhile challenge. It’s great fun and a worthwhile project!”

Only original artwork submitted by the artist or artist’s representative will be accepted for this competition. Artists can submit two entries, but artwork must not have been previously exhibited in any Horry or Georgetown County or City program.

This year, we will divide the artists into separate categories.  We had several young artists participate last year and would like to acknowledge their contributions.  Artists can submit in one of three categories: 8th Grade and below, 9th – 12th Grades and Adult.  Artists can choose from paint, markers, photography, digital art, crayons, and chalk.

“We can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with to commemorate our twenty-second annual festival,” said Delores Blount, director of the Pawleys Island Festival of Music and Art.

A panel of arts professionals will make the final selection based on specifications, design and marketability. The winning image will be produced as the cover for the Pawleys Island Festival of Music and Art’s program books and will also be produced as the festival poster. The winning image, an original signed by the artist, will be auctioned at the thirteenth annual Pawleys Island Wine Gala, with all proceeds going to the Pawleys Island Festival of Music and Art.

In addition to the $300 cash prize, the winning artist will receive two all access passes to the festival, ten posters and national recognition via publicity surrounding the 22nd annual event.
