Sunset River Marketplace, the eclectic art gallery in Calabash, N.C. will offer its monthly interactive Creative Exchange program on Wednesday, Dec. 14 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The featured speaker will be Monique Holenko of Sugar Confections in Shallotte, N.C. She will present The Art of Holiday Baking and demonstrate how to put together her popular donut tree.
After providing friends and family with cookies and cakes for years, Holenko, began a home-based baking and catering business in 2006. Her wedding cakes, cookies and other sweets became so popular, she says, she outgrew her home kitchen and opened up shop in Shallotte in 2010.
Her bakery, Sugar Confections, has become a regular destination for locals craving her cakes, cookies, cupcakes, breads, cannolis, pastries and other confectionery treats.

Sunset River Marketplace showcases work by approximately 200 North and South Carolina artists, and houses some 10,000 square feet of oils, acrylics, watercolors, pastels, mixed media, art glass, pottery, sculpture, turned and carved wood and artisan-created jewelry. There are two onsite kilns used by students in the ongoing pottery classes offered by the gallery. A custom framing department is available.
