New England Goes Fall
History, Theatre and Fantastic Weather!
There is something about cooler weather that makes you more energetic. It gets your blood running after you have that fantastic morning cup of delicious coffee and a sweet roll. To me Maine is almost like paradise and certainly compares to my fond memories while living in Vail, Colorado.
A perfect example of Maine and its long running historical calendar is the Ogunquit Playhouse in Ogunquit, Maine. For 75 years, this magnificent theatre has produced shows to rival New York’s Broadway. With stars casted in leading roles they never cease to bring some of the greatest musical revivals and recently produced shows to their stage. This year they offered Avenue Q, Summer Love, The Music Man, Legally Blonde and until October 23, Miss Saigon. Then top that off with an array of wonderful children’s Theatre including Snow White, Jungle Book and Fairy Houses, the musical. For information and reservations, www./OgunquitPlayhouse.org or call them for tickets at 800-982-2787.
Attending the Ogunquit Theatre is Maine is like the kickoff to a perfect vacation. To me New England is all about homemade goods, festivals, pumpkin pie, LOBSTER. Here is a great tip, if you love lobster like I do and hate to pay the top prices, find a Market Basket (grocery store with benefits) and head to the seafood counter and purchase a pound and a half lobster for $3.99 a pound and have them steam it right there. For less than six dollars you can dine like a King when you take it home, to your resort or a local picnic table, slap on a little butter and lemon and start slurping!
Maine is perfect for walking the beaches. Even in the dead of Winter, there is something about the rocky coasts and its beauty that can relax and rejuvenate your soul. It gives you time to think and reflect on important things and takes you out of the everyday grind!
Maine is very friendly and there is a real substance of family. Mainers seem to take each day as it comes and never rush to just get the job done. They are caring about their homes, especially their yards and plants. People up North seem to like Fall decorations and colored lights at Christmas. Gift giving is different as a bottle of wine seems to do the trick when you visit friends. (A good bottle of wine!)
As to history, never fear, there is something around every corner that will take you back hundreds of years. It is the dream state for history buffs.
From restaurants, ice cream shops, hot dog and burger spots that offer Lobster Rolls and more, Maine is a pleasure and takes you off Weight Watchers for a few days. Go for it! Enjoy the moment! You only live once!
Truly, this is one of my favorite places for you to vacation!
